KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – After making news last year for best return on investment (ROI) among colleges and universities in the Pacific Northwest, Oregon Tech has done it again, according to an annual report by the Seattle-based compensation data company PayScale.
In a four-way tie, Oregon Institute of Technology is listed as 34th out of 1312 for annual ROI, an assessment of the return on investment over 20 years when investing your money in a degree at Oregon Tech. Oregon Tech graduates have a typical starting salary of $57,000.
To measure the value of investing in a college degree, PayScale refined their collection methods this year to provide the most accurate representation of return on investment of college degrees. These changes include evaluating based on a 20-year Net ROI instead of a 30-year scale, allowing for a more realistic pay-growth schedule. Additionally, this year’s data included more variables from the Integrated Postsecondary Educational Data System (IPEDS), which include on-campus costs versus off-campus costs and percentage of students receiving Pell grants. The methodology used to collect data remained based on salaries reported by alumni earning bachelor’s degrees over a period and comparing those earnings to high school graduates’ earnings.
The dollar figure assigned to each of the 1312 institutions examined – the ROI – represented the amount a college graduate could expect to earn over and above what a typical high school graduate earned during the same period, after deducting the cost of obtaining his or her degree.
